Sarges Place Saw 10 people,
connected a vet with housing in PA-hell be able to move
in mid September
DAV Saw 7 veterans and was able
to take action on 3. One veteran said that he couldnt
make heads or tails of his paperwork and was glad that we
were here.
Legal Aid Saw 5 veterans, was
able to take action on 2 gave 2 referrals and 1 follow up
appointment. 1. Veteran living in trailer on friends
undeveloped land keeping an eye on things (after friends
excavator was stolen). Friend said lands utilities would
be in place (electricity, water, phone, etc.). Several months
later nothing is in place. Vet lacks standing for negotiating
with utility companies. Recommendation: Get friend to sigh
limited POA for vet to negotiate and handle utilities installation.
2. County harassment over land issues (trash/nuisance). Recommendation:
Clear hotline.. 3. Vets drivers license suspended/child
support/unpaid tickets/had commercial drivers license class
B, reissued no class B, wants it back. Recommendation:
Get driving history, apply for license if not wait
10 years and get record expunged. 4. Issued letter from DMV
to have medical physical for fear his disability prevents
vet form driving. Vet took letter to his physical for doctors
signature doctor didnt sign or complete form,
but vet paid for exam. Recommendation: send original form
back to doctor for completion and signature. Send copy of
bill and unsigned form back to DMV to show compliance with
in time limit. 5. Widow of retired vet no VA benefits?
No SSA benefits. Recommendation: Will follow up with me and
DAV.
WorkSource Saw 27, took action
on 13 with 5 new registrations.
County Vet Asst Saw 14, took
action on 4. Provided assistance with food and housing.
OlyCap Saw 23, took action on
6. Provided man referrals and gave out 4 blankets. One comment
heard several times was I wish that they had brought
their buddies with them. When asked why they didnt
come there were various reasons ranging from, just
lame, no transportation, or wasnt
sure.
Hospice Saw 10 or so, Provided
information about Hospice provided in the community. Thanks
for the opportunity to participate. Many people saw the work
Hospice and said oh, thats not for me.
I tried to inform them of the resource for in the future or
for their friends and loved ones. Nice to get to know other
community resources as well.
Senior Information Saw 20, took
action on 12. Handed out resource information talked
about different potentials for meeting needs. Learned about
www.myhealth.va.gov, and the Seattle low vision clinic.
Food was delicious-
VA Outreach Saw 15, offered
information.
Dental screening Saw 9, rx for
Penvk by doctor, gum infection x 2 people.
Barber 23 haircuts, everyone
was so thankful, we told them we thank them. This was a pleasure
for us. My students really got to enjoy the feeling of helping
others and each on has said they are going to do this or something
similar when they start working in their shops. None of us
made a penny today, but were paid richly thru the people we
met and their appreciation, thank you. Breakfast and lunch
were awesome.
Mental Health Saw 9, 1. Young
woman wants help for husband (Gulf War Vet). 2. Young woman
wants help for self (wife and daughter of vet). 3. Vietnam
vet interested in counseling. 4. Woman Navy vet. 5. Wife of
Vietnam vet. 6. Vietnam vet looking for a counselor. 7. Non-combat
veteran wants help for depression. 8. Grenada vet wanted to
talk about recent problems. 9. Vet with psychotic disorder
needing medical help.
Serenity House Saw 10, took
action on 8. Gave out several cards, flyers, and phone numbers.
Took information to share with several veterans I know. It
was great! I enjoyed networking with fellow service providers
and appreciated the work of veterans Thank You. It
was great
Doctor Saw 19, Number of people
with action/services 48. Prescriptions written 6, Vaccine
given 7, consults 10, reading glasses given 7, blood pressure
taken 5, mini exam 2, diabetic checks 1, OTC (free stuff)
taken 6. Directed to Pro Bono 1, directed to Jefferson County

Detected significant cardiac arrthymias - started treatment
and encouraged follow up with list of needed tests and further
treatment.
Wrote several prescriptions for dental patients sent over
by screeners for treatment.
Also, had a number of informal medical discussions
with other stand down volunteers (always ok with me.)
